Washburn Rural High School Theatre

Washburn Rural High School I Topeka, KS

A Place for Every Student

  • Build, design, & perform 3-5 productions annually
  • Community outreach and educational engagement for district elementary students through Blues Studio initiatives and activities 
  • Thespian involvement in local volunteer opportunities, as well as participation in state chapter events
  • Support and assistance for local students to audition, perform, and crew in local theatre productions and improv comedy troupes

Career Potential

WaRu Theatre prepares students for a spectrum of theatre-based careers in production, touring, dramaturgy, lighting/design, and professional stage management.

Honors

WaRu Theatre continues a tradition of providing high-quality experiences for students recognized at state and national levels. 


WRHS was selected by the National Federation of High School Activity Associations (NFHSAA) as the 2018-2019 Performing Arts School of Excellence. 

In 2022, we were 1 of 7 high schools in the U.S. selected to perform as a mainstage production at the International Thespian Festival.

Maintaining an inclusive, positive environment with high expectations for work ethic and responsibility is central to our core values. This ensures students will have the best collaborative and creative experiences possible while growing skills for future success in any field.
